On October 11, 1981, ‘Verano azul’ premiered on TVE, a series that marked a before and after in the history of television and which caught 9 million Spaniards in its last chapter.
It was a revolution in our country. The production started with shy audience data, but ‘Verano azul’ ended up reaching, even, that football matches were delayed because the adventures of Desi, Pancho, Tito and company meant the stadiums weren’t filled.
The alternate ending of ‘Blue Summer’
Verano Azul’s ending wasn’t initially the one we’ve always known, as revealed by Jorge Sanz. The actor attended the TVE program Vaya Crack, presented by Roberto Leal. There, Jorge Sanz had to tell four anecdotes and that the participants tried to guess whether what the actor said was true or not.
One of these anecdotes referred to the legendary TVE series Verano Azul, which ended in 1982 with a tragic and unforgettable end that, many years later, will remain engraved in the memory of the Spaniards: the death of the mythical Chanquete.
But, as the actor revealed, that ending wasn’t what the writers originally intended. After Chanquete’s death, there was an additional secret chapter that was never completed. “A part was taped. There was always something going on and there was a really clumsy one who got lost and had to go get it, because we were a scout group,” the actor explained.
“It was never aired and it has to be stored in a box in a basement here on TVE and one day it will be recovered. An incunabula of Blue Summer”, he summed up. The competitors bet because the story told by Jorge Sanz was false, but it turns out that this is not the case, that it is true that this hidden end of ‘Verano Azul’ exists.
In this sense, the Cueva de Nerja offers on its website the unpublished chapter of the ‘Blue Summer’ series, which is physically exhibited in the Museum of Nerja thanks to one of the protagonists of the series, Miguel Joven, ‘Tito’ in fiction, and collaborator of the foundation of the cavity.
A series to remember
The success of the series was so great that even today, the most loyal fans want to know what happened to its actors. In this sense, in recent days María Gallarón has given more details about the actor José Luis Fernández, who played Pancho on the show.
In this sense, Gallarón explained that the actor is currently admitted to a psychiatric center: “He’s fine and he’s still there and when he talks to us he gets very emotional, he loves us a lot and we love him.”
The actor has been involved in various issues with the law and also with drugs. In fact, the actor was arrested in 1989 for robbing a French citizen at gunpoint. when a weapon and a piece of paper were seized.
After ‘Verano azul’, the actor tried his luck in the world of music with Artero, with whom he formed the musical duo ‘Pancho y Javi’. Finally, he tries to resume his career as an interpreter, participating in plays as a dubbing actor. He also participated in the series ‘Children of Mambrú’, which was established in 2012.
