The dryer and the Hair iron They have become indispensable accessories for women who like to treat and take care of their hair in a special way. However, the universe of women’s hairdressing is so vast that there are other proposals to choose from, such as electric styling brushes.
They work with hot air which helps to dry the hair (although it’s best to use a normal hair dryer first to reduce the humidity), then comb and style it to your liking . The design of these models is similar and the usual thing is that in addition to having a cold air button that fixes the hairstyle, they include a speed selection switch and a temperature switch (however, some styling brushes electric combine these two controls on a single one). On the other hand, if the brush has an automatic rotation movement, it is much better than if you have to use it manually, especially if you are not used to using an accessory like this.
Which electric styling brushes did we choose?
The models selected are: Babyliss Beliss Big Hair 1000 (8.5), Bellisima Dry&Style GH18 1100 system (8), Remington Hydraluxe AS8901 (7.75)y Ultimate Rowenta Virtuoso brush experience (8.75). When analyzing and evaluating each, here are the aspects that were taken into account:
- Design: what is the build quality of the product and the head (or heads) it incorporates.
- Power: The higher the power, the higher the performance. How does each model take advantage of this value?
- Number of heads: Ideally, the styling brush includes at least two, one for long hair and one for short hair. Some, however, add others like a curling head
- Live: Does the brush do its job, is the hair full and shiny? It is also important that they include a rotation function, because thanks to it it is much easier to manage and “tame” the hair than if it has to be done manually, and how it manages frizz
Comparison of the best electric styling brushes: here’s how we tested them
During several sessions, each of these four proposals was used with different hair (thick, fine, semi-curly, with bangs, short, long, mid-length hair, etc.) to check how it worked, they keep what they promise and if their handling is comfortable and practical to obtain good results. Before using each brush, the hair was dried for a few minutes to remove most of the moisture, then a protectant was applied.
electric styling brush Rowenta Ultimate Virtuoso Brush Experience This is the winning model, although the rest of the participants in the tests also provided quite good results. Rowenta’s proposal stands out not only for its design, ergonomics and finishes, but also for the results it offers: so your experience is the best. Hair looks voluminous, shinier and barely frizzy.
Rowenta electric styling brush Ultimate Virtuoso Brush Experience: Our choice

It has one of the most beautiful color combinations, and although its design is wide (it measures 400 millimeters long), this does not prevent it from being handled comfortably, since the ergonomics and the grip offered were very well done. The presentation of the box has also been taken care of in a particular way and after opening it we find three brushes, each with its protector in order to provide maximum durability and that the tips are not damaged if the shaping brush is not used.
The exchange of one against the other is very simple because the manufacturer has opted for a very efficient ‘take off and put on’ system. The smallest brush, 38 millimeters, is intended for short hair. In the meantime, depending on whether our hair is thick and frizzy, or thin and without volume, we will use one of the other two large 50 mm brushes. This detail highlights its versatility when it comes to adapting to different hair lengths so that they can be well combed and tangle-free as we gain volume.
data sheet
- Functions: dry and shape.
- Power: 630-750W
- Speed and temperature settings: 3
- Accessories: A 50 millimeter brush for thick and frizzy hair, another 50 mm for fine hair without volume and a 38 millimeter brush for short hair and bangs.
- Others: cold air blowing, ceramic coating, natural bristles, automatic rotation, ion generator.
At the bottom is the control that gives access to three smart programs that combine two factors: heat and air speed: “Brightness and fixation” works at low temperatures, as does the “Volume from the root” mode , which also adds a high rotation speed. The last program is “Soft and silky hair”, which combines a high temperature with a low rotation speed.
- The best: its design, its comfort of use and its results.
- Worse: This is the least economical option, as there is no specific attachment for the curling iron.
- Conclusion : The incorporation of the automatic rotation function makes this styling brush extremely comfortable to use and with more than dissolving results with the different types and lengths of hair. Its design, on the other hand, in addition to being very attractive, is the best.
Babyliss electric styling brush Beliss Big Hair 1000: the alternative

In addition to a travel bag, it includes four interchangeable heads: one dehydrates the hair, another straightens it (although its results are not comparable to those of a the iron) and the others – which are the ones that have been used the most – shape it. How are these two heads different? The largest is a rotating head of 50 millimeters which is controlled by the two buttons located at the top of the handle, and which must be kept pressed at all times. Meanwhile, the small (20 millimeters and fine tips) is specifically for shaping bangs and ends, as well as other short layers.
The experience is positive, though, and as has happened with the rest, it is advisable to be patient until you master it and get the desired results. In addition, since the dimensions of the styling brush are not very large and the weight is comfortable, it helps to handle it much easier. Added to this is an anti-tangle swivel cord just over two meters long which ensures absolute freedom of movement. It delivers 1,000 watts of power and, in addition to offering two temperature settings (one for fine hair and one for thick hair), it has a cool air function that fixes the hairstyle for several hours. On the other hand, its ionic technology considerably reduces frizz so that the hair is more beautiful.
Bellissima electric styling brush Dry&Style System GH18 1100: best value for money

Equipped with a swivel cord (like the rest) and 1,000 watts of power, the cheapest alternative in this selection comes with five attachments: a concentrator that removes moisture from hair (in testing we got preferred to use a normal hair dryer); a flat rectangular brush for detangling; a 32-millimeter round brush that’s handy for shaping ends and creating soft waves; another round of 50 millimeters which works quite well with different types of hair (wavy, thick, fine…); and a 19 millimeter curling iron that users with long, thick hair will particularly benefit from. Of course, neither the round brushes nor the curling iron offer an automatic rotation system.
In general, its results do not disappoint, especially considering the price range in which it operates. However, when comparing the results, other models give fine hair more body and volume. On the other hand, it is important to highlight its ceramic coating thanks to which the hair gains in luminosity and “suffers” less in contact with hot air.
With the cold air button that fixes the hairstyle, it incorporates two positions that regulate the flow of air and the temperature expelled: one combines a medium air flow and a medium temperature for fine hair, and the another stronger airflow and high temperature for thick hair.
Remington Electric Styling Brush Hydraluxe

Together with the Bellisima styling brush, it is the most economical option, but its power (1,200 watts) is the highest, which shows that its ability to generate air and heat through its internal flows is superior.
It comes with a single head of mixed hair which, due to its design and features, is particularly suitable for users with a lot of hair. This head, on the other hand, incorporates a ceramic-coated barrel that removes moisture from the hair fairly quickly and some small conditioners that above all provide greater softness. Meanwhile, its ionic conditioner dramatically reduces frizz and results are reminiscent of the Bellisima styling brush. The only ‘but’ (as with his opponent) is that this head does not turn automatically. As the whole process is manual, combing the ends (both outside and inside) is particularly difficult at first if you are not skilled.
The materials chosen for its manufacture are fine, the grip leaves good impressions and the side grids located at the bottom avoid excessive heating. It incorporates two switches: one is for choosing between low or high speed, and the other is for the temperature (the highest is for thick hair, the so-called ‘Hydrocare’ for fine, bleached or damaged, and the ‘Cold’ option sets the hairstyle after finishing).
