For many, the 993 generation of the Porsche 911 is one of the most beloved. We are talking about the last 911 with an air-cooled engine, so it is a model that many collectors usually seek out because of its characteristics. Moreover, there are tuners who are even capable of improving it, or at least modernizing it even more, as Paul Stephens Autoart is now showing us with this new Porsche 933R, a restomod that retains all the essence of the original 993 but at the same time has received new generation improvements to perform even better.
5 years of work
In fact, we are not talking about just any restomod, but about a project for a client who It took no less than 5 years to complete.partly because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also because of the quality of its new components, some expressly designed by Paul Stephens and others by Porsche Sports car.
The improvements mainly affect the mechanics and the weight of the vehicle, which now stops the scales in a few 1,200 kg thanks to the elimination of non-essential partsincluding stereo, air conditioning, power windows and other switches or door handles and the the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber included in its new Recaro sports seats. It also has a safety cage which makes the racing DNA of this preparation even clearer.
As for the engine, the famous six-cylinder boxer block has been adjusted, even increasing its displacement from its original 3.6 liters to around 3.8 liters, which allows it to go from its original 272 hp to around 330 hp, even as an option, you can reach 360 hp by increasing the rotational speed to 8,500 rpm. Its crankshafts and bearings from the 997 GT3, its pistons from the 993, its rocker arms from the RSR, its oil pump from the 997 GT3 or its custom-made Porsche Motorsport camshaft also have their say in this improvement. The engine is also managed with a 6-speed manual gearbox with a lighter clutch.
A unique restaurant?
Being a one-time restomod, the builder hasn’t revealed the price of this unit, or if it’ll be making more units, though it seems open if demand meets.
