The Tesla Model 3 was the king of sales electric car for the past three years or so, but his reign is over – at least for now. That might sound like bad news for Tesla, but nothing could be further from the truth, as the Model 3 has been knocked down by another model from the house: the Tesla Model Y. This model was the best-selling electric car in Europe during the first half of 2022, but we will not stop there. We are going to find out which were the 50 best-selling electric cars on our continent during the first half of the year.
Con over 45,000 units sold Between January and July, the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Europe during this period. It supplanted the Model 3, which recorded just over 40,000 registrations. Among other circumstances, the higher proportion of Model 3s from China influenced this change in trend. Recall that during the month of May, the Shanghai region (where Tesla’s Chinese factory is located) was affected by new confinements and temporary closures in factories.
After the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, the third best-selling electric model is the Fiat 500e. The small Italian utility, completely renewed in 2020, won bronze with nearly 33,000 units sold. It is not a particularly affordable model (in Spain it costs 30,100 euros before subsidies and possible discounts) but its 460 kilometers of autonomy in the city (depending on the version), make it a very valid model in the environment where the Fiat 500 has always been more comfortable, the city.
Another interesting fact about the Fiat 500, the electric version represents 38% of sales of the model, the previous generation of which continues to be sold with combustion mechanics. It is also the most efficient electric car of the Stellantis group, followed by the Peugeot e-208. A Stellantis group that has overtook Tesla in electric car sales during the first half, even if it should not be forgotten that the Franco-Italian-American group sells electric cars in Europe under five different brands (Citroën, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Opel and Peugeot).
