El Corte Inglés will extend at least one 5% its sustainable offer each year until 2025. Note that the chain of department stores has grown by more than 9% its sustainable product business proposition in 2021 compared to the previous year. Durability attributes
The sustainability attributes accepted by El Corte Inglés are included in the Guide to sustainable products for buyers and suppliers, which has been prepared by the corporate sustainability area in collaboration with the purchasing and supply areas and specialized external entities.
In this sense, some of the most present attributes in the chain’s offer are recycled polyester, the Made in Spain label, recycled cotton or organic natural fiber.
Thus, the company groups its sustainable offer through four programs: Local product, Sustainable design and manufacture, Sustainable origin and closing the loop.
In perfumery and beauty, the new line clean beautyavailable in physical stores and online, under which are brands of sustainable, natural and not tested on animals cosmetics.
Commitment to sustainability
The company joined the European Chicken Commitment, a move away from marketing fast-growing, own-brand fresh chicken. Thus, the entire current supply of this type of chicken comes from slow-growing breeds certified in animal welfare.
Before 2026the department store chain intends to extend the objectives of this commitment to all of its own-brand offerings comprising a 50% or more chicken ingredient.
In this sense, El Corte Inglés has also promised that all eggs of your own brand comes non-cage hens and combined systems. For 2025has extended this commitment to external brand fresh eggs and all own brand products containing fresh eggs as an ingredient.
Similarly, the company has expressed its commitment to certify in 2022 the fresh counters of its fishmongers in accordance with the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody Standard, an initiative that aims to promote sustainable fishing and the protection of marine ecosystems.
