After a tough battle, a quality group escaped as an escape. Among those involved were Mavi García, Liane Lippert, Grace Brown, Elise Chabbey, Riejanne Markus and Colombian Paula Patiño. His maximum lead was 1’50” over a peloton that rode aggressively for much of the stage.

The moment of greatest tension before the final ascent was the responsibility of Annemiek van Vleuten, who had to change bikes twice and carry out stressful chases -especially the first one- where there was some disorganization of her team and she was up to 40″ below. the lot of the best. Luckily, it was all just a scare.

Pauliena Rooijakkers made her start on foot from La Planche in the lead, seeing her gap reduced to 20″. García tried to oppose her, but the Dutch was stronger and alone tried to resist the onslaught of the best.

Just in the main group, there was also action. Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig or Elisa Longo Borghini tried to surprise, but leader Van Vleuten was strong enough to close those moves and then counterattack with 5,800 meters to go. Nobody responded to the proposal, boosted by the work of Patiño, won to roll his boss a few meters.

The yellow wearer established herself as the leader of the day and a few meters away, Demi Vollering tried to catch up with her, who at her own pace tried to limit the losses on her great rival. Further on at 40″, they chased others who saved places of honor: Niewiadoma, Ludwig, Persico, Longo Borghini and Labous.

Vollering’s attempt to catch up with his compatriot was fruitless, as his gap widened little by little and even the third group was closing in, so it was all decided except whether Niewiadoma could keep third place overall on Labous.

Van Vleuten overcame the rest of the climb with flying colors and celebrated at the top with sterrato a sired victory with authority, in addition to being the winner of an iconic race at the age of 39. One more demonstration of its kind and what a reference for world cycling.
