Upcoming Releases: August 2022 Games

August is generally, in almost all respects, a rather “weak” month. Chosen by a large majority as the month to take vacations, half the world comes to a standstill and as a result many companies in all sectors (except tourism, of course) have pressed the brakes, reducing their rate of normal activity to a fraction of it. This is something we also noticed this month, during our usual monthly recap of the most relevant game launches that will take place throughout this month of August 2022.

Of course, just because the pace drops doesn’t mean it stops. On the contrary, we have found titles that we have been waiting for a long time, and who have decided to make their debut this month to help us make the heat wave, which this year is particularly vitaminized, more bearable. So let’s try to freshen up a bit with this month’s most notable game releases.

South of the circle

  • Release date: August 3, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Halfway between a game and a cinematic fiction, we find ourselves before one of those proposals in which we will have to face vital decisions that, in one way or another, will mark the future of our fate. We’ll play as Peter, a Cambridge professor who crash-landed in Antarctica during the Cold War, in a dead end in which past, present and future will be shaken in a shaker of emotions that could lead us to make decisions that, a priori, we thought we had abandoned.

Two-point campus

  • Release date: August 9, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Filtered by mistake a little over a year ago, this is the title that those of us who already appreciated Two Point Hospital at the time awaited with open arms and, even more, those of us who have an indelible memory of the mythical Theme Hospital. Running a university seems quite complex, what we never imagined is that it could also become horribly absurd and, what is more important, insurmountably fun. Of course, do not rely on that of “Knowledge does not take place”, quite the contrary, you will have to measure the size of the classrooms to the nearest millimeter.

Arcade paradise

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Somewhere between the 1980s and 1990s, before computers and video game consoles fully arrived in homes, there were places where a gaming offer was concentrated that drove several generations crazy. I speak, of course, of the arcades. And what Arcade Paradise offers you is to put you in charge of one of these rooms from day one (in fact, until now it was a laundromat) and, with your ingenuity and skills, to make it the reference piece. Along the way, you’ll be able to add up to 35 arcades that, yes!, you can play in the game.

Worship of the Lamb

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Announcement at gamescom last year, and although not a triple A, Cult of the Lamb was one of the titles that got the most attention at the event (and the one I’ve been waiting for since) . After a supposedly sweet and childish aesthetic, we are actually faced with a particularly sinister game in which we will take control of a possessed lamb who, after avoiding death, and in payment to his savior, will create a sect that will worship said saviour… and himself. But it won’t be easy, because the land of the false prophets is populated by many other cults that you will have to face in your fight of faith (and/or ambition).

Rumbleverse

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Who said that everything was already invented in the Battle Royale genre? From the hand of Iron Galaxy Studios and with Epic Games as publisher (yes, precisely Epic, those responsible for the most successful Battle Royale in history) comes Rumbleverse, a twist to the genre and which adds to the action of these titles , a layer of sense of humor that can give you a breath of fresh air that, however, does not abandon many of the mechanisms and options typical of these titles.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

  • Release date: August 12, 2022
  • platforms: computer

This does not surprise us, because this version was already announced by Sony about two weeks ago. We’re facing the highly anticipated jump from Marvel’s Spider-Man, until now a PlayStation 4 exclusive title, to PC. In this title, eight years have passed since Peter Parker first donned the Spider-Man mask, but New York is still the target of multiple villains that will have to be faced relentlessly.

Madden NFL 23

  • Release date: August 19, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Tom Brady’s retirement didn’t last long, with the absolute NFL star who, after announcing in May that his elite athletic career was over, just over a month later announced that, well , why not another year? So if you take charge of a football team in Madden NFL 23, and even if you have to start with the most humble, you may end up leading a team that has the legend in its ranks. That alone is reason enough to try.

Midnight Fight Express

  • Release date: August 23, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Sometimes we look for games with very thoughtful stories, which make us think and from which, in the end, we have extracted a learning that marks, in some way, our lives. It’s not so, Midnight Fight Express offers us a fighting experience at a mile an hour, with mechanics and cutscenes that promise to be quite innovative. Whether with your bare hands or with all sorts of weapons, you’ll take on hordes of enemies in an experience that’s meant to be five-star stress-relieving.

Saints Row

  • Release date: August 23, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The game that kicked off Gamescom 2021 is finally just weeks away from debuting on Epic Games. We are left with the long-awaited reboot of a classic saga in which violence, irreverence and a great sense of humor take us to Santo Ileso, an open-world city in which, teaming up with Neenah, Kevin and Eli, you will take the first steps towards creating what will start out as a gang, but aspire to become a crime empire.

Destroy all humans! 2: Reproved

  • Release date: August 30, 2022
  • platforms: computerPS5, Xbox Series X/S

Maybe I forgot to mention it at the time, but Destroy All Humans! I found it to be one of the most complex and entertaining games of 2005, and I can say the same for its 2020 remake. Crypto, its protagonist, and the game itself, are the irreverence in its purest form, with a singular critical look at the decades of the 50s (in the original) and the 60s (in this second part). Get rid of those pesky hippies, get revenge on the KGB, fool the politicians who are used to being the ones who fool people, and remember, your mission is to annihilate humanity and take over this goddamn planet.
