Catalonia presented this Thursday solo application for the Olympic Games d’Hiver, which the Generalitat has assured that is ready to be held “anytime”but without closing at 2030 so as not to generate “expectations” that cause “frustration”.
This was stated this Thursday by the presentation of the Winter Olympics project by the Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, after meet the mayors of the Catalan Pyrenees and the sports federations.
The project has already been sent to Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) for its evaluation after the failure of the joint proposal of Catalonia and Aragon.
The minister assured that they were ready “to have a Catalan candidacy” and called don’t miss the “opportunity” that they be held by 2030, although he assured that the decision did not depend on the Generalitat.
About the query it must be held in the territories where the sporting event would take placeVilagrà assured that he continues “paralyzed” until they have an evaluation from the COE to say that “there is indeed a Catalan candidacy”.
The Generalitat provides that the Winter Olympics have several sports venues in the Catalan Pyrenees, and others in Barcelona and cities in its metropolitan area, as well as to carry out tests abroad.
For some of them, the Generalitat is studying the possibility of housing them in other points of Europelike Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), or on site French from Chourchevel and La Plagne.
The Barcelona Winter Olympics are planning a total of 114 Olympic events and 30 Paralympic events out of a total of 16 sports disciplinesat which 2,940 Olympians and 679 Paralympians are expected.
The Pyrenean sites planned for the possible sporting event are the stations of Baqueira-Beret, Boí-Taüll, Espot, Masella and La Molina, while the metropolitan sports sites are divided between Barcelona, Badalona and Gavà.
In Barcelona, the Palau Sant Jordi, one of the buildings of the Fira de Plaza España and the future Nou Palau Blaugrana have been made available, while Badalona offers the Olympic Pavilion, and in the municipality of Gavà the future construction of the Center for high performance for ice sports.
