Directed by Sharon Fridman and Eduardo Guerrero

Under the choreographic direction of Eduardo Guerrero, the direction of Sharon Fridman and the dramaturgy of Triana Lorite, the show, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage, in collaboration with the Board of Directors of the Alhambra and the Generalife, will be the protagonist from July 19 to August 27 of the cultural nights in the Generalife gardens, becoming one more year “one of the unmissable events of the summer in Andalusia”, as Sánchez Estrella pointed out.

In his speech, he also pointed out that the cycle Lorca and Granada, has become “an excellent map for the cultural potential of Granada and Andalusia, as well as an important catalyst for Andalusian cultural industries”. In this sense, he recalled that this cultural program was designed with the aim of generating the best synergies with the provincial and regional associative fabric, the cultural industries and the tourist infrastructures of the city.

For her part, the General Director of the Board of Directors of the Alhambra and Generalife, Rocío Díaz, also reaffirmed that “it is important to extend the cultural activity of Granada in the summer to continue generating jobs and wealth in our city thanks to proposals that , in addition, they privilege the networks that contribute to their momentum ”.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, and the Board of Directors of the Alhambra and the Generalife, have been developing this program since 2002 which, 20 years later, “remains one of the main milestones of the cultural summer in Andalusia with a cumulative attendance in its twenty editions of more than 750,000 spectators,” said Díaz.

For her part, the playwright and creator of the production jondoTriana Lorite, clarified that the choice of the five characters for this piece was not fortuitous: “Working on the presentation that Lorca proposed to launch the Competition, we understood the depth of his commitment to Cante Jondo, so that it does not disappear and its five characters who die without being loved, in an intense sentimental and sexual volume”.

For his part, the dancer and choreographer Eduardo Guerrero pointed out that “Federico García Lorca’s desire not to lose popular traditions, and in particular the Andalusian cante, reveals to us that Lorca was one of the first to understand the cante Jondo and what he brings to dance, a quantitative step towards the avant-garde”.

For Sharon Fridman, production manager and author of choreography, lighting and set design, “to be able to work with Lorca’s literature and give it shape and rhythm is a great honor, because I feel completely connected to its lines of thought and I feel in each of his characters. As a human being, with Lorca and his Jondo, I feel at home”.
