Coosur Betis will host the next edition of the Endesa Super Cup (September 24 and 25), the tournament that officially opens the basketball season in Spain, as the ACB and the Verdiblanco club have just announced. It will be played for the first time in its history in the San Pablo pavilion and the line-up will include, in addition to the Betis team, Real Madrid, champions of the league; Barcelona, champions of the last edition of the Copa del Rey; and Joventut, ranked third in the Endesa league this season.

The last two editions of the Spanish Basketball Super Cup have been held at the Santiago Martín Island Pavilion in Tenerife and have been won by Real Madrid, the club with the most gold medals, with eight .

The presence of Coosur Betis as hosts opens the possibility of winning a title, which would be within two games, but with the enormous difficulty of defeating teams of the magnitude of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Joventut.

There is no match schedule yet, but the two semi-finals will be played on Saturday 24 and the final will be reserved for Sunday 25. It will be the first time in Seville for the Endesa Super Cup, which has been played in a four-team format since 2004 and it has been won by a total of six clubs: Real Madrid (eight injured, the last four in a row); Barcelona (six), Baskonia (four), Joventut (two), Valencia Basket (one) and Gran Canaria (one). The title of the island team (2016) was won with Luis Casimiro on the bench, fresh out of a year and a half at the former Club Baloncesto Sevilla. And that team, designed by Berdi Pérez, included Eulis Báez and Anzejs Pasecniks.

Coosur Betis begins pre-season work on August 22 and will play the Andalusian Cup on September 17 and 18, a double confrontation against Granada and Unicaja which will serve to heat the engines for this Endesa Super Cup which will be an added incentive that the illusion should be triggered in view of the 2022-23 season. The San Pablo Pavilion had not hosted an event of these characteristics at ACB level since the 2004 Copa del Rey.

The reaction of the mayor

The mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, spoke about the choice of the San Pablo pavilion as the venue for the Super Cup, which was possible, according to the ACB, thanks to the agreement reached by the employers with the Junta de Andalucía and the Seville City Hall. “Seville is once again positioning itself as a city ready to host major sporting events, so the celebration of this Endesa Super Cup demonstrates the work that the city has done in recent years to generate guarantees, security and confidence during the organization of first-level events both nationally and internationally, making Seville a city of reference in the world of sport”, emphasized Muñoz.
