Those of Faenza have not introduced any packages since Imola
They trust to recover lost ground in midfield at Paul Ricard
AlphaTauri technical director Jody Egginton predicts that they will make substantial engine cover and flat bottom improvements for the French Grand Prix. The men from Faenza have lost ground in the midfield in recent races by not developing their AT03, but they hope to regain points at Paul Ricard.
Alpha Tauri they have gone less far since Baku and after three consecutive races out of the points zone, they have fallen to eighth position in the World Championship. The positive for them is that they got good information from their AT03 and in France there will be big aerodynamic improvements, with which they have to recover the lost ground.
“We have a clear vision of what we really want to improve. In addition, we have a significant and reasonable improvement for France, centered on the bonnet and floor. The objective is to put an end to the weak points that we have already identified. It’s an aero update and that’s the aspect we had to work on the most,” Egginton explained on the official Formula 1 podcast, Beyond The Grid.
Egginton maintains that they were able to manage the rebound correctly with the improvements introduced in the first races and the new parts brought to Imola also worked well. Yet they have since stalled and paid dearly for it, but they are ready to improve their aero performance at Paul Ricard.
“We weren’t the most affected by the porpoising. At the start of the season we learned a lot on the pitch and we reacted quickly with small improvements on the car. At Imola we introduced something bigger and the car has behaved well since. No, we suffered with the rebound, but now we want more aero performance“, added.
Pierre Gasly He points out that fast turns are currently AlphaTauri’s main weak point. At Silverstone they were completely on display all weekend and the Frenchman remembers they didn’t make any improvements in the last two months. We must therefore recover ground before reaching the summer break.
“At the moment the lack of downforce is hard, we have already seen it at Silverstone in the fast corners. We haven’t worn anything new in the past two months and I think we lose a lot of time compared to our most direct competitors. We have to react and gain in performance, as we did at the start of the year,” said Gasly to conclude.
