First international trip for Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. That same Saturday, the Kings girls will attend the UEFA Women’s Euro England 2022 match in London which will pit the national teams of Denmark and Spain against each other. It is a meeting which celebrates its thirteenth edition this year and which will last until July 31, with venues in Brighton & Hove, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Rotherham, Sheffield, Southampton, Trafford, Wigan and Leigh. The Spanish women’s football team, led by Jorge Vilda, is in Group B with Germany (8 times champion), Denmark (current vice-champion) and Finland.
This is the first time that Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofía take part in an act outside of Spain and they also do it alone. It is not known whether Queen Letizia will accompany them in a private capacity, although in the case of the king it is known that the monarch will be in the town of Pontevedra de Marín in the morning, where he will preside over the swearing in of the flag and the delivery of royal dispatches to new naval officers, coinciding with the celebration of the day of Carmen, patroness of the Spanish navy.
That this act was the one the royal family chose for the international debut of Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sophia is particularly relevant. This not only represents another step in her public program – especially for Infanta Sofía, who has yet to perform in any solo acts – but also because it demonstrates the support of the House of HM the King for women’s sport and his engagement . A detail that can be linked to the Queen’s agenda, which has already made an appearance in various engagements to give visibility to this issue.
It won’t be the first time that Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sophia go to a football match. In fact, in 2016 the two went separately and with the king to two Champions League games, one at the Vicente Calderón and the other at the Santiago Bernabéu.
In recent times, the agenda of Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofía has intensified considerably, especially in the case of the heiress, whose institutional presence is greater than that of her sister. Since his return from Atlantic College of Wales -where the courses ended on June 17-, the Princess not only presided over the acts for the presentation of the Princess of Girona Award but, in addition, the two sisters took part the day before in an engagement in Figueres.
Beyond this express visit to London, Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofía should accompany the King and Queen to Galicia on July 25 for the feast of Santiago. An appointment to which they were already last year and which will take place shortly before their trip to Mallorca for their official holidays.
